Dear colleagues, friends, and esteemed guests,

It is with great pleasure and anticipation that I welcome you to the European Cavernoma Meeting 2026, held at the University Hospital of Tübingen.

Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) represent a rare but highly complex pathology. Their clinical spectrum ranges from incidental findings to debilitating seizures, hemorrhages, and neurological deficits. Over the last two decades, we have witnessed groundbreaking advances—from the identification of causative gene mutations and biomarker candidates to the development of surgical strategies, radiosurgical options, and promising pharmacologic interventions. And yet, many pivotal questions remain unanswered: Which lesions require treatment—and when? Can we predict outcomes based on biology and imaging? What role can emerging biomarkers and artificial intelligence play in personalizing care?

This is precisely why now is the right time to gather. At this turning point, our goal is not only to exchange the latest knowledge—but to set a clear agenda for future research and care. This meeting is built to encourage an open and structured exchange between clinicians and researchers from across disciplines. With contributions from leading neurosurgeons, geneticists, neurologists, radiologists, neuropathologists, basic scientists, and patient advocates, the European Cavernoma Meeting 2026 will reflect the full spectrum of expertise that this condition demands.

We are particularly pleased to welcome internationally renowned speakers who have shaped the field, including pioneers in genetic discovery, surgical innovation, and translational research. Alongside high-level plenary lectures, the congress will feature abstract sessions, panel discussions, and “Meet the Expert” opportunities to ensure dynamic and inclusive engagement.

Tübingen—with its history of scientific excellence and innovation—is the ideal place to foster such exchange.

We are honored to host this event and look forward to welcoming you for two days of focused science, vibrant discussion, and collective advancement.

Sincerely,

Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. (UFRJ) Marcos Tatagiba
